Just wanted to let everyone know that our meeting is this Thursday the 10th and that we will be having Geoff Elliot doing a program on Abraham Lincoln’s Inaugural Train Journey which started 150 years ago this Friday. Geoff Elliot is a prolific researcher on Abraham Lincoln and even has his own website devoted to him at http://abrahamlincolnblog.blogspot.com/.
Also as a note the Meeting Programs page has been updated with 2011 dates and information for this program is on there so if you want to you can visit that page be clicking here. More programs will be added as they get arranged and notice will be given when they are posted.

I know this is a little last minute but I wanted to let you know about all the details concerning our Annual Banquet on November 11th. It will be held at the Canton’s Women’s Club and dinner will be served at 6:30p.m. Your menu choices are a pork tenderloin with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted broccoli or a vegetarian lasagna with roasted broccoli.
The program for the night will be given by Christopher Kenney from the Mckinley Museum and is entitled Let Us Ever Remember…McKinley’s Presidency Through Film. This program chronicles the presidency of William Mckinley through rarely film clips from the time and should be very interesting.
The charge for the dinner is $15 dollars and will be needed at the time of the banquet. We need you to confirm your reservation by Tuesday the 9th at the very latest so that we can have an accurate number to give to the women’s club.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted everyone to know that you can now pay your membership dues online using a credit card or paypal account. Simply move your cursor over the membership tab in the navigation bar and two pages should drop down for you. One is the new membership application and the other is the member renewal application. Clicking on whichever applies to you will begin a two step process to membership.
The first step is to fill out the application form and submit it. You will then be directed to a paypal form to fill out which once submitted will direct you to paypal’s site to finish and pay for the membership. If you have any problems or need any help please contact me using the contact form on the site and make sure that website is in the subject.

I have changed the site a little and have put the links to the applications on the membership page. So now just click on the membership page and the links to the applications will be at the bottom of the page.

I just wanted to tell you that September program will be Mandy Pond from the Massillon Museum giving up the program that was supposed to be for August which is about preserving your family’s oral histories. It should be a very good program so I hope you can all make it. The programs page of the website has also been updated with the program.
Hi everyone I wanted to get a call to action out to everyone concerning the Stark County Fair that is coming up here from August 31 to September 6.
We have a space at the fair this year and we really need folks to volunteer to man it through the week. We have divided the days into 4 and 5 hour shifts so you wouldn’t have to be there all day and there will be two people per shift. A lot of spaces are still open so we really need your help getting these shifts filled in.
If you want to help please contact our publicity chair Stephanie Houck. You can contact her by using the contact form that is on our website and picking publicity on the subject list. She will be able to give days and times that are available. Anyways I want to thank everyone that can help out ahead of time and we will see you at the fair. Thanks.
Hi everyone I know this is very last minute but there has been a change in the program for this Thursday’s meeting. Mandy Pond from the Massillon Museum was unable to make it to the meeting for her program so instead Carolyn Caskey will be giving a presentation on the Fairmount Children’s Home which was located just south of Alliance and served as an orphanage from the late 1870′s to 1973. The meeting will still be at the same place and time so I hope to see you all there. Thanks and sorry for the change.
The July meeting is this Monday, July 5 for our Annual Picnic. It will be held at the Sippo Lake Clubhouse located at 5300 Tyner Street NW
Canton, OH 44708. Please bring your own table set-up and beverage of choice, plus a side dish, salad, or dessert to share. The main course will be provided. Our program for the evening will be presented by Richard Halti. He will be speaking on the story of the Dueber-Hampden Watchworks.
Hey guys I just wanted to send out a reminder to you all that the June meeting is tonight at 7:00pm with snacks starting at 6:30pm. Tonight’s program will be from Jill Malusky from the Massillon Museum and it will be about Ohio’s Pre-Contact Native American History & Archaeology so it should be very interesting. Also we will be showing off the new OGS bags that we ordered and have now so please come on down and visit us. As usual we will be in Room 107 of the Trinity United Church of Christ at 3909 Blackburn Road Northwest in Canton, OH. See you guys there.
Hi everyone just wanted to let you know that the Meeting Programs page has been updated with all of the new programs that we have lined up including the May Scan party where you will be able to get some of your old photos scanned into the computer for the Society’s and your own collection.
Also if you need directions to the Records Center for April’s Meeting there is a link to the directions under that months program description.
Just wanted to let you know that the April meeting is coming up this Thursday and it will be at the Stark County Records Center and John Runion will be our host.
The Records Center is at 201 3rd St. N.E. Suite 5 in Canton, Ohio.
If you are coming from the west:
Then take US-30 east and get off at the OH-43/Cherry Ave. exit and travel north towards downtown.
If you are coming from the east:
Then take US-30 west and get off at the OH-43/Cherry Ave. exit. Then turn left onto 11th St. and then take the next right onto Cherry Ave. towards downtown.
When you are on Cherry Ave.
Travel north until you come to West Tuscarawas St. and turn left onto it.
Take W. Tuscarawas St. west until you come to Market Ave. N. and turn right onto it.
Take Market Ave. north until you come 3rd St. and turn right onto it.
Travel one block down to the corner of 3rd St. and Piedmont Ave. The Records Center is in the building on your left hand side at the corner of 3rd St. and Piedmont.
It is Suite No.5 in the building.
For parking you should be able to use the parking lot for the Wheel Cafe which is one block down on the corner of 3rd and Walnut. There are also parking spots along the street too.
Remember we will be meeting at the Records Center at 7:00 pm and there will not be a business meeting that night. I hope to see a lot of you there and if you have any questions please email me through the contact form.
